Root Canals...Just the Facts, Ma'am!

Do you cringe at the word "Root Canal"?  Have you heard horror stories about them?
In actuality they are no more painful than a filling. Once you are numb, there should be no feeling throught the proceedure. The problem comes when your dentist is impatient and is not willing to let your infection subside before performing the root canal. Education is power, read this article explaining what a root canal is and how it is performed. We think you will find that it calms your nerves (no pun intented).

Obsession of the Day: Colgate Whisps

Okay so I may be a little guilty of oral hygiene obsession, but is that really a bad thing?!  I think the world might be a little better off if more people had this illness as I do.  Have you seen the commercial for those little pocket toothbrush thingies called Whisps.  You know the one: Cute girls runs to the bathroom to brush her teeth with this weird lookin' munchkin toothbrush with the blue ball in it and then whala....her date takes her into his arms and kisses her passionately and they live happily ever after.
"Try it, you'll like it" - Yo Gabba Gabba

Well, I gave it a try and no hot guy came around the corner to embrace me passionately and let's face it, he would have gotten a face full of fist if he had....I am a married lady!!  Sorry, back on track.  I did however discover a refreshingly, sparkelly clean feeling in my oral cavity.  How can that little teeny tiny blue ball have such an impact?  I don't know how they do it, but it is AWESOME!  Just like I came from the dentist: Minty Fresh!  I highly recommend you keep these on hand for you single guys & gals out there....disclaimer: You may find yourself spontaneously making out with strangers just because you can.

Here is my funny story about Whisps (My husband might divorce me for this)

The other day I was going to a Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce mixer with Grady of Grady's Window Cleaning and needed to have minty fresh breath (uuuhhhh and not to make out with Grady, he's my brother eeeewwww!)  So, I whip out a whisps (try to say that 3 times fast, I dare you) and once finished, put it back in the package for disposal at a later time.  Fast forward to yesterday....  My hubby and I were taking the little one to Main St. for the farmers market and as I walk out of the house notice that he is brushing his teeth with a whisps.  He asks me with a puzzled look on his face, "Isn't there supposed to be toothpast that comes out of this thing?"  I said, "yeah, there is a little blue ball."  Then it all click in my head.  Oh no!  He took the used one out of the package and was using it!!!  You can all say YUCK out loud if you want.  I start laughing my head off and tell him that it was the one I had already used and offer him a new one.  That might have been the best part of my week!  After he finished useing the NEW one I asked if that one worked better.  Oh husbands; always good for some comic relief!

Moral of the story is: Don't take my Whisp without asking!

A Little P.S.A. to Brighten Your Day

We posted these before and after pictures on our Facebook Page and a friend asked if she could show them to her kids.  It got me thinking that these pictures would make an effective Public Service Announcement about staying off of Drugs.  These 2 cases done by Dr. Lydon were both drug users who's teeth had literally rotted out of their mouth.  The kicker?????  Patient A was only 23 when these pictures were taken and Patient B was 35 years old.  It's enough for us to never want to pick up something that can harm our bodies in that way....hope it does the same for others.

* Warning: These pictures are a little graphic.  I don't recommend viewing while eating your lunch ;-)
